Here is a 1936 Universal Genève steel chronograph ref. 5182, double-signed "Universal Genève" and "Uweco," powered by the manufacture Calibre 385, in a very good condition and just serviced.
The dual signature places this chronograph in a precise moment in the history of the manufacture. "UWECO" — Universal Watch Et Company — was the trade name registered by Universal in October 1935, used commercially during the mid-1930s before the company formally adopted the name "Universal Genève" in October 1937. Watches with both names date from this narrow transitional window. The variant spelling "Uveco" appears on some watches of the same period.
For collectors of Universal Genève, the Uweco signature is a marker of early production — predating the Uni-Compax and Compax model families that would define the brand's chronograph output from 1936 onward — and surviving pieces are scarce.
The stainless steel case measures 35,8mm, excluding the crown, and is in excellent overall condition with the original olive-shaped pushers, characteristic of Universal's pre-war chronographs. The snap-on caseback is signed and with the correct reference and serial number.
The silvered two-tone dial is a professional restoration based on the original. The multi-scale configuration — tachymetre and telemetre — is in a perfect condition with no patina and no oxidations
