This Universal Watch Art Deco tank lady`s watch, dating to around 1933, belongs to the line of rectangular dress watches that the brand introduced in the 1930s, reflecting the Art Deco movement’s emphasis on geometry and stylised designs. The case shows very light traces of use and is in an axcellent, superior condition. The snap-on caseback locks securely and is signed inside with the correct Universal Watch markings and serial number, which dates this watch approx. 1933. The original plexiglass is in excellent condition without visible scratches.
The silvered two-tone dial has strong Art Deco graphics. The rectangular chapter frames the elongated black hour markers. The Universal Watch “U.W.” older signature is consistent with period typography. The original blued hands are intact and in very good condition. This watch is powered by a Universal Genève hand-wound calibre from the early 1930s, part of the small-size rectangular movements the brand produced for ladies’ watches. The movement is original to the watch and functions correctly.
