Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Kryos watch family as a sports-oriented watch. It appeared in the JLC product catalogue from 1991 onward and remained in production through the late 1990s.
The Kryos is water-resistant to 200 metres and positioned as JLC's answer to the integrated- bracelet sports watch segment. Within the Kryos family, Ref. 305.8.89 denotes is the all-steel automatic version — Production numbers were limited, and the model was discontinued before the introduction of the Master Compressor line. The stainless steel case measures 37 mm excluding the original screw-down crown and sits confortably on the wrist with only 9 mm in height. The polished and brushed surfaces show only light traces of wear.
The caseback, secured by eight screws, carries the correct Jaeger- LeCoultre serial numbers, reference and manufacturer markings. A unidirectional graduated rotating bezel is in a very good condition, it shows only light traces of use and it is free of damage. The original black matte dial is in an excellent condition, with no oxidation and only a light, even patina across. The Luminous indexes and hands are in an excellent condition and have aged to a very nice light hazelnut tone. The quickset date is at 5 o'clock. The movement is the JLC Caliber 889, an in-house automatic manufacture movement with 36 jewels, rhodium-plated finish, Glucydur monometallic balance, self-compensating flat balance spring, and Kif shock protection, operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
First introduced in the 1980s, the Cal. 889 served as the most foundational movement for Jaeger-LeCoultre, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, and IWC, and later evolved into the current Cal. 899. The movement has been serviced in-house and is in a proper working order. The watch is fitted with its original stainless steel integrated bracelet and folding clasp, this is in a very good condition, it shows only light traces of use, and has an overall length of approx 18 cm.
