History of the Heuer/TAG Heuer 2000 Series
The 2000 Series was introduced by Heuer in 1982, designed by Eddy Schöpfer as a successor to the 1000 Series dive watches of the late 1970s. Where the 1000 Series had followed the conventions of traditional dive watch design, the 2000 Series proposed a more contemporary case with integrated crown guards, a new bezel construction.
The collection was water-resistant to 200 metres.
In 1985, the TAG Group acquired Heuer from Piaget/Nouvelle Lemania; the name changed to TAG Heuer on 1 January 1986. The ref. 174.006 first appears in the 1984 catalogue under the Heuer name and continued in production under TAG Heuer through 1990. The 2000 Series itself remained in production until 2004, when it was succeeded by the Aquaracer.

The DD 2000 module was the product of a partnership between Lemania and Dubois Dépraz begun in the late 1970s, and Heuer — having contributed to the funding of the project — held initial exclusivity on this movement.
When Lemania sold its shares in Heuer to the TAG Group in 1985, the use of the movement became more widely available, and the same Dubois Dépraz module was subsequently adopted by other manufacturers.
