This stamp was issued May 29, 1948, to honor Wisconsin's admission to the union. The stamp was designed by Victor S. McCloskey, Jr. and depicts the map on a scroll and the state capitol.
Wisconsin was first explored by the French and then the English. It became part of the United States in 1783, and an official territory in 1836. Wisconsin became the 30th state on May 29, 1848.
The Wisconsin state bird is the robin, the state flower is the wood violet, and the state tree is the sugar maple.
