Up The Bracket may be one of the defining albums of the 2000s rock revival: raw, chaotic, romantic in its own messy way. When it came out, the UK music press went absolutely wild, even claiming The Libertines were “the new Beatles” (which they were not). But they were one of the most important bands of their era, standing shoulder‑to‑shoulder with The Strokes and The White Stripes in bringing guitar music back into the mainstream.
The album is full of nervous energy, street‑poetry charm, and that unmistakable London grit. Produced by Mick Jones of The Clash, it captures a band on the edge: brilliant, unstable, and completely alive.
And yes, part of the mythology around them comes from Pete Doherty, who at the time was romantically involved with Amy Winehouse, adding even more tabloid‑fuelled chaos to their legend.
A cornerstone of early‑2000s indie rock and a must‑have for anyone who loves that era’s raw, back‑to‑basics sound.
