The Mad Professor Super Black is an all-analog, "amp-in-a-box" preamp and overdrive pedal designed to accurately replicate the legendary 1960s Fender Blackface (AB763 circuit) amplifier signal path. It captures the iconic punchy, mid-scooped, and sparkling chimey clean tone, as well as the smooth, dynamic break-up of a cranked vintage tube amp at manageable volumes.
Core Features & Mechanics:
- Dual-Channel Design: Features the core Blackface preamp emulation alongside an independent, footswitchable circuit of Mad Professor's best-selling Sweet Honey Overdrive to push the front end.
- Preamp Versatility: Can be used as a standard tone-shaper in front of an amp, or plugged straight into the FX Loop Return / Power Amp stage or an IR cabinet loader to bypass your amplifier's native preamp coloration.
- Tone Tailoring Controls: Includes a 3-band EQ (Bass, Middle, Treble), a Presence control for high-frequency output adjustments, a Bass Cut switch (to tighten low-end fuzziness), and a Compression switch (to mimic power-amp sag).
- Voltage Flexibility: Operates at 9V /12V/16V/18V; running it at higher voltages increases headroom and clean dynamic response.
- Serial number "SB 21 01011" is over 1,000 so the pedal can indeed operate at 18V.
