For Sale: Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale 2012 – Elegance Meets Power

I am offering a bottle of the 2012 Clos de la Maréchale from the legendary Domaine J.-F. Mugnier. This 9.7-hectare monopole is the largest in the Côte d'Or and has been under Mugnier’s direct control since 2004. While Nuits-St-Georges is often known for its "rugged" tannins, Mugnier’s touch brings a signature Chambolle-like finesse to this terroir, making it one of the most sought-after 1er Crus in the village.

Vintage and Maturity – A Vibrant and Concentrated Success

The 2012 Vintage: 2012 was a year of low yields but exceptional quality in Burgundy. The wines are characterized by great concentration, vibrant fruit, and a "juicy" acidity that has allowed them to age beautifully. It is a vintage that has always been more approachable and charming than the structured 2010 or 2013.

Maturity Status: At 14 years old, this bottle has entered its ideal drinking window. The initial "crunchy" red fruit has evolved into a more complex profile of black cherries, forest floor, and delicate floral notes (violets). The tannins, which can be firm in this vineyard, have softened significantly, resulting in a silky, long-lasting finish.

Market Price and Value

The demand for Mugnier has intensified globally over the last few years, making it difficult to find "library" vintages like 2012 in Switzerland.

In the current Swiss secondary market, the 2012 Clos de la Maréchale typically trades between CHF 190 and CHF 240. Specialized Burgundy retailers in Zurich (like Caveau de Bacchus or Real-Wine) often list this vintage at the higher end of that range due to its proven aging potential.

My price offers a competitive value for one of the most iconic "monopole" wines of the Côte de Nuits.

Handling: I recommend standing the bottle upright for 24 hours before serving. No decanting is necessary; this wine is best enjoyed as it opens up naturally in a large Burgundy glass.
