The First Chair was designed for Michele De Lucchi for the Milan-based company Memphis, who caused a stir in the design world in the 1980s. It was designed in 1983 although its quirky design could easily fit in items from the 1960s as it has a similar playfulness.Italian Designer Michele de Lucchi created an a piece of sculpture with this aesthetic object. Materials, form and color and shape are re-arranged and no longer subordinate themselves to the pesky principles of function. This chair is considered a work of post-modern art.
