There are quite a few gourmand fragrances which are popular among perfume lovers and Italica by Xerjoff is one of them to be sure.
It's no accident that it received such high placement in our Readers' Awards for 2022.
It also earned high grades in our editors' fragrance awards in 2021 and it had 7th placement in the 2021 Readers' awards for best unisex fragrance as well. Wow!
My colleague Nayeli Cano wrote about it last year: "It’s been a very different year for me with many changes in my personal and professional life, but the thing that hasn’t changed so much is my taste in perfumes, I’m still levitating towards gourmand-foody smells and green/fresh scents.
I’m so glad Xerjoff decided to release Italica again in 2021, as I haven’t been able to try it before and I’ve heard great things about it from gourmies like me.
Although it has a new look (I’m sad the velvet packaging is gone) it is supposed to smell the same. This has to be one of the most delicious gourmands I’ve ever tried, it smells like a French bakery to me, although I’ve never been to one, you get the point, the scent has the crunchy textures of an almond that can also remind us of cherry with creamy/milky nuances.
Totally edible but also very sophisticated, a grown-up gourmand."
The story of the fragrance goes somewhat like this: The 2016 edition in a velvet box was limited to Harvey Nichols, and was later presented in a limited number exclusively on the Xerjoff Universe brand's online sales.
But due to high commerciability the Xerjoff brand's managing team decided to include it into the permanent Casamorati 1888 Collection by Xerjoff and give it a beautiful color and design, with fanciful illustrations on the outer packaging.
Therefore the 2021 Italica became a thing. And it got tongues wagging, and wagging, because it's - how shall I put it - considered delicious.
Interestingly, it started with lukewarm and muffled reviews (saying it's overpriced) but later cemented a highly positive reception. And now, here we are.
