Dent de Lait by Serge Lutens is another scent which riffs on the play of milk and blood from the human body.
Although less visceral than Secretions Magnifiques, this is still a fragrance which divides opinion. Here the softness of milk is contrasted against the hardness of a bloody, metallic accord and aldehydes.
The reaction to smelling it conjures quite nicely the unsettling feeling of losing a milk tooth as a child; part innocent sweetness and part unsettling life event.
Dent de Lait went even further toward Weird Sisterhood with its fizzy aldehydic almond-heliotrope decorated with metallic streamers and streams of milk.
For all of that, can I tell you that Dent de Lait is so darn wearable?
On a strip or fresh out of a sample, it seems possessed of a melodramatic determination to be different for the sake of being different, but it settles into skin and becomes aerated, creamy, sparkly, and endlessly curious.
