« The tyre in the picture is a crossply race tyre that was made in the Goodyear Wolverhampton factory, probably in the late 1960 or early 1970’s. These tyres (like similar Dunlop crossply race tyres from this period) did not have any sidewalls, not even a thin calendered strip. This was to save weight.
The tyre size is in inches which is usual for Goodyear, in the tyre size designation system we use in Dunlop, this would equate to 330/610-13: 330 being tread width in mm, 610 being overall diameter in mm and 13 being rim width in inches. The tyre is most likely to have been used as a rear fitment on an single seater, open wheel race car, - these would have been Formula 1 (3 litre), Formula 2 (1600cc), Formula 3 (1000cc then restricted 1600cc) up to Formula 5000 (5000cc US passenger car V8 engines such as small block Chevrolet or Ford/Cobra).
