The QU02 from Quloos is a high quality USB to SPDIF and I2S digital interface, incorporating only high-end components to provide the most transparent and faithful sound reproduction possible. It can also be used as an external sound card to enhance the sound quality of a DAC or audio player.
This interface can be connected to a computer, a tablet or a smartphone for example, via its USB-B connector. The incoming signal can then be redirected to a DAC, an amplifier, a DSP or active speakers, thanks to a complete panel of outputs
New isolation technology
Both ends of the QU02's isolation are powered by the local power supply, providing an extremely clean and stable electrical signal, resulting in a clearer and more detailed sound. In the QU02, the data processing section (CPU), the output signal processing stage and the clocks are completely isolated. The purpose of this isolation is to eliminate interference from the signal source for greater sonic accuracy.
An uncompromising clock circuit
A lower jitter level results in better sound quality and greatly improves the coherence of the midrange and bass, to which the human ear is more sensitive. The highs are also improved, more delicate and precise. Thus, the Quloos QU02 uses a high precision clock from Würth Teknology for its CPU in order to greatly limit EMI interference. The stability of this clock and its low jitter ensure a better placement of the sound image for an increased feeling of immersion.
The audio circuitry of the QU02 uses two high-end Accusilicon AS338 oscillators, offering excellent performance in terms of jitter and phase noise. Indeed, the jitter of this model is measured at only 38fs and its 10Hz phase noise is -109.5dBc/Hz.
A power supply stage of incredible quality
The power supply stage of the QU02 is divided into several isolated segments, each responsible for providing clean and efficient power to the various circuits of the interface, while minimizing interference that could alter the signal. This power supply stage also incorporates multiple LT3042, LT1963 and LT3693 voltage regulators, ensuring excellent performance in terms of noise and transient response. To ensure effective filtering and isolation, it also incorporates Philips 135, Philips 030, Murata, WIMA, ERO and Panasonic SMD capacitors.
Excellent performance even with a smartphone or computer
Often, USB interfaces are used with a 5V power supply from the USB input, so the sound is inevitably influenced by the quality of the input USB power supply. Because the QU02 uses a Murata power supply isolation module and abandons the 5V power supply from the USB input, the interface is completely free from the influence of this power supply mode. As a result, the sound performance is improved regardless of the source and the differences in playback between two different sources are reduced.
