Nikka Yoichi & Miyagikyo Rum Cask Finish: a very limited edition for Velier's 70th Anniversary
The Nikka Yoichi & Miyagikyo Rum Cask Finish package was created for Velier's 70th Anniversary, and contains two Single Malts with no age definition, bottled in 2017 after a year of ageing in ex-rum casks. This is a true rarity, produced in only 600 bottles worldwide, comprising two expressions from Yoichi and Miyagikyo - Japanese distilleries that produce very different but complementary whiskies.
The Yoichi has a nose in which peat prevails with sweetness, amidst nuances of lemon, butter, vanilla and tropical fruit. The palate is complex and smooth, with notes of ginger, peach, chocolate and coffee. The finish is persistent, with the return of peat mingling with vanilla, chocolate and spices.
Miyagikyo has a sweet nose, with aromas of red fruits, vanilla, almonds, apple and chocolate. The palate is elegant and round, with notes of caramel, pear, sweet spices, vanilla and a hint of wood. The finish is of medium persistence, rich in fruity, beeswax and vanilla hints.
