Macallan 14 Year Old 2009 SMWS Single Cask 24 Rare Release Spirit of Speyside 2023 Massive Oak Extraction Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (2023) 70cl
Oh wow! Single Cask Macallan at an ABV of 63! This is phenomenal stuff that we do not see often anymore due to Macallan not giving any casks away to IBs. We are on our own at the mercy of them for future Exceptional casks priced £1500 upwards if we want to have these anymore.
Distilled in Speyside at Macallan distillery, this release was bottled by independent bottlers The Scotch Malt Whisky Society for the Spirit of Speyside festival 2023. This expression was distilled in 2008 and was put down to mature in a combination of first and refill Oloroso & Pedro Ximenez sherry oak butts & hogsheads for 14 years. Part of a limited release of 2,554 bottles, this whisky was bottled under the name "Massive Oak Extraction".
Tasting Notes
Nose : Applestroop, cola, eucalyptus, sage, walnut, hazelnut, Black Forest cake, raisin date. It's very complex and welcoming.
Palate : Incredibly thick and oily, with a nice spicy edge. The nose is prolonged, yet now even a bit more winy notes. Old PX, orange liqueur, leather, quite some nuts, cola and rich chocolate. Towards the end, a mild peppery note brings warmth.
Finish : Long, nicely spicy, sweet and rich. The pepper note brings extra structure. Chocolate and wood.
