This very rare model from Audemars Piguet is a remarkable example of the style of the 1970s, characterized by the generous proportions of the case and its geometric design.
The Beta 21 movement, the first quartz movement made in Switzerland and the epitome of the 1970s, considered the main theater of the "quartz revolution".
The Beta-21 electric quartz movement was developed by a consortium of twenty watchmaking companies at the Swiss Center for Electronic Research CEH (Centre Electronique Horloger) in Neuchâtel. It was the first quartz movement for wristwatches with an analogue display and was presented in April 1970 at the Basel fair. The Beta-21 movement had a rate accuracy of 5 seconds per month, making it far superior to all automatic and hand-wound watches of the time.
