For sale is my OPEN U.P. (2nd Gen), size L, a very versatile bike set up as a nimble, comfortable and confidence-inspiring gravel machine, ideal for forest roads, rough gravel, mixed surfaces, and bikepacking where grip, comfort and control matter.
The set-up includes several unique features:
- Wide tyres for grip, comfort and crisp handling;
- Electronic shifting including the convenient of satellite shifters
- A custom 2x set-up with low climbing gears and nice gear progression;
- Short 165 mm cranks;
- MTB-grade disc rotors;
- A vibration damping stem, effective and lighter than a suspension fork;
- A handlebar with classic round design.
The gearing is one of the strong points of the bike. The Rotor 46/30 crankset combined with an 11-36 cassette gives a very wide and practical range for gravel riding. Compared with modern 1x gravel drivetrains such as SRAM RED XPLR 10-46, this 2x setup offers at least comparable total range, an easier climbing gear depending on the chainring used on the SRAM setup, and overall better gear progression for steady cadence on mixed road and gravel terrain. In simple terms: you get the low gears needed for steep gravel climbs, while keeping smoother steps between gears for faster sections and road transfers.
The 650b carbon wheelset with Schwalbe Rocket Ron 2.1” tyres makes the bike very capable on rougher surfaces while keeping the handling lively and playful.
The Vecnum stem further improves comfort and control by adding adjustability and damping at the cockpit, which is especially useful on long gravel rides and broken surfaces.
The bike has always been well maintained and is mechanically in good working condition. However, the frame and some components have visible cosmetic marks and paint chips, including areas where the paint has come off, for example from a dropped chain. In those places the carbon is visible, but to the best of my knowledge the frame has no structural damage.
In other words, this is not a “showroom condition” bike, but a very capable "companion" used as such, and good value for someone looking for a premium, versatile gravel bike with a distinctive and very functional setup at a competitive price point.
