Audient Sumo Analog Summierer – Fr. 2'595.00
AES/SPDIF Karte - Fr. 895.00
This is a summing mixer, supports 16 channels with cascading, and includes thorough metering, a compressor, a limiter, an insert, and an digital converter.. Separate mix and monitor outputs, each with attenuation. Channels 1-4 can be stereo or dual mono.
I am using this unit to sum outboard preamps and sending the Audient's digital output directly into my DAW. This not the typical use, so bear that in mind, as most people's workflow is DAW->summing unit->DAW with an AD/DA in between.
The compressor uses a VCA as the gain reduction element. I'm not very fond of it as a bus compressor (fyi, bus compression is not my expertise). I do like it as a tracking compressor. It's fairly aggressive and I always use it subtly unless I'm doing multiple passes for parallel. Very intuitive to use for drums or anything percussive. Ratio, attack and release are switched controls. Make up gain is a generous (thank you!) 20db. It can be switch in and out of the circuit, and be switched before or after the insert. I was using a RMS super stereo compressor in the insert at one time, and that was IMO a better bus compressor (I liked it less as a tracking compressor), and worked great using the insert. A HPF and/or a wet/dry mix would be nice to have additions.
The limiter is fairly transparent and good for preventing digital overs.
